Children Martial Arts Program

ages (3 - 12)

program description

The Nokado School of Self Defense believes that children are the greatest natural resource that our country has. This belief is reflected in our Jiu-Jitsu Program for children, which focuses on the concept of being the best you can be. We teach children the philosophy of "walking away" from a confrontation whenever possible, but to defend ones self if forced into a situation with no other options.

At the Nokado schools, building confidence, self-esteem and encouraging self-discipline are the main goals of our children’s curriculum. Self-defense is the pathway we utilize to achieve these goals. In this way, before children acquire the skills of self defense, they have already learned to use them responsibly.

Confidence is achieved by developing the ability "to do." When children are taught a technique and then, through practice, can perform it, they develop confidence. This sense of confidence transfers to all areas of the child’s life. At Nokado, we stress the belief of "positive affirmation." The words "I can, I will, I must" are commonlly heard echoing throughout our schools. Believing in themselves and knowing they "can do it", makes children feel good about themselves.

At Nokado we also believe in instilling children with the "winning attitude." No one is ever left out on our team, everyone plays, and our team is a winning team. We encourage students to develop their own goals, and then teach them the skills to achieve those goals. This is part of the winning attitude. We believe in our children and praise them for the hard work they do. We also have incentives for students in the form of our special clubs and teams, our Night of the Ninja sleepover and occasional special guest instructors.

Benefits

"To Develop Oneself Physically, Mentally, Spiritually and to have a Good Character"

Physical Development - The Nokado Jiu Jitsu Centers Curriculum of Martial includes a built in system for the improvement of one’s physical abilities. Our system includes physical fitness, athletic ability, self-defense skills, enhancement of one’s speed, power, and flexibility, and the development of well rounded and versatile Martial Artists.

Mental Development - Our Nokado Jiu Jitsu Centers teaching system develops the individual’s abilities to focus and concentrate. To become highly skilled in the Martial Arts, one must be centered and focused, and the learning process emphasizes both these abilities through development of the student's concentration skills. Martial Arts helps to develop strong minds by teaching that anything is possible. This is what develops the "Yes, I Can" attitude.

Spiritual Development - Martial Arts teaches determination. Students learn to believe in themselves and what they are doing, and to never give up. They learn to put faith in their instructor’s ability to guide them to their next level of accomplishment and in their own ability to reach that level.

Character Development - Striving to develop a good character within ourselves is the facet that separates Martial Arts from other fitness programs and sporting activities. The development of an athlete is much simpler than the development of a Martial Arts student. Not only does an instructor have to work with the student to develop physical proficiency, he must also develop the mental skills and discipline. The Nokado Jiu Jitsu Centers consistently demands respect, discipline, control, and a positive mental attitude from its students. An average Martial Arts school is one in which the students are skilled in the physical aspects of the program. A great Martial Arts school is defined by students who are well rounded and developed to perfection in all aspects of self-development. What separates a great Martial Arts instructor from an average one, is his attitude of caring towards his students and his determination to ensure that all four goals of the student creed are accomplished by them. What defines an outstanding Martial Arts Association is that it never sacrifices its ideals or values and strives to develop their students to their best potential.

Adult Martial Arts Program

ages (18 - 80)

Program description

Our adult program offers men and women beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. Each studentis given the opportunity to train with others at their level. We treat all of our students with the utmost respect and courtesy, at all times. Our adult program has been carefully designed to suit any person from any background. Age, physical condition, or handicaps are addressed on an individual basis so that each person will benefit and succeed at their training. Our teaching methods highlight your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses.

As in our children's program, we help each student realize their goals, both on and off the training floor, and teach them the techniques to achieve them. We teach the philosophy of Jiu-Jitsu which encompasses the mental and internal elements, as well as the pure physical techniques that can save your life, or the life of a loved one.

There are three things you will develop in your study of Jiu-Jitsu at Nokado. First is your physical self. You will tone your muscles and condition your heart. Second is your state of mind. A by-product of being in good physical condition is that your mental abilities will become sharper. Third is your internal spirit and mood. The path of Jiu-Jitsu starts with the physical improvements. As we move quicker, more accurately and with less energy, a mental understanding of ourselves and our opponent develops. This leads to a feeling of confidence. The confidence of knowing that we can defend ourselves, and to a greater extent, that we can control ourselves, in any circumstance, makes us shine from within. Before long this glow becomes so bright that everyone will notice. Jiu-Jitsu is truly about improving ourselves so we may become the best we can.

 Children Birthday Parties

Our birthday parties include a one hour instructional period in which we introduce the basics of Jiu-Jitsu. The most important aspect of this introduction is that we teach why and when to utilize self-defense techniques. In addition, during the hour of instruction, children will learn how to count from one to ten in Japanese, they will learn how to safely do rolls and cartwheels (on mats of course) and get to participate in fun martial arts games. Other activities include blocking drills and kicking the airshields.

The last half hour, you may bring in pizza or snacks and juice boxes. This is our story telling time. Please note that all people who enter the training floor must remove their shoes. This is a tradition in Japan and one that we like to observe in our school as well.

There are two instructors present during the party and children will be shown a short Jiu-Jitsu demonstration for their entertainment. Each party is a private class for your child and up to twenty of their friends. Every child will receive a gift certificate for a free week of classes.
